Vianney's View?

Last evening I again headed over to Camp Guggenheim to help out with their Penance Service for this last week of the camping season.  I'm always moved to encounter the deep faith of the campers (16-18 year-olds this week), and the staff this year has been truly amazing.  I'll miss having them just 45 miles away when my spirit needs a boost!

So I stayed the night there on the shores of Lower Saranac Lake (which were beautiful if not serene...since the lively Coffee House/Variety Show managed to carry on till the wee hours of the morning), and took advantage of today's absolutely stellar weather to take the kayak out for another spin.

Paddling around with Deacon Tom Higman (God willing, a soon-to-be priest of our diocese) and his friend, Fr. Dave Friel (just ordained in May and visiting from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia), we enjoyed a nice lunch out on Sable Island.

We kept joking all day about whether or not the very austere St. John Vianney (who was known to eat little more than cold, moldy potatoes) would approve of such things...but surely his holy feast deserves a certain amount of celebration, don't you think?
